A Florida woman allegedly attacked another driver with bear mace after she drove around her car and ran over a chicken that was crossing the road, authorities said.
Cynthia Diaz Sosa, 38, has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of burglary with assault or battery in connection with the July 9 incident in Key West, according to an arrest report obtained by PEOPLE.
Court records show Diaz Sosa has pleaded not guilty.
Diaz Sosa stopped at an intersection that day around 5 p.m. to “let a chicken cross the road” when another driver honked at her and then drove past her, the arrest report states. According to the report, the other driver ran over and killed the bird, which left Sosa “angry.”
Diaz Sosa, who allegedly said she wanted to “teach her a lesson,” then followed the driver. When Diaz Sosa caught up with the motorist, she allegedly tried to open her car door, per the report. Amid the struggle, Diaz Sosa “pulled out her bear mace and sprayed it into the vehicle, spraying [the victim] directly in the face while she was seated inside,” the report states.
Authorities claim Diaz Sosa drove away from the scene but she was later arrested.

Per the report, the victim claimed she was on her way to pick up her child from daycare at the time of the incident. The victim added that she and her passenger were both struck by the mace while trying to keep the car door closed, which affected their ability to see which way Diaz Sosa fled. Medics treated the victims at the scene.
A witness also reported seeing the suspect spray the mace and flee southbound in a black sedan, the report states.
Court records show Sosa posted a $35,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on July 24.
Her attorney, Dustin Hunter, tells PEOPLE, “There’s more to the story and we’re looking forward to her day in court.”
