Train is a pop-rock band from San Francisco formed in 1993. They have released 11 studio albums, with their latest being “AM Gold” released in 2022. The band currently consists of Pat Monahan (lead vocals), Taylor Locke (guitar), Hector Maldonado (bass), Jerry Becker (keyboards), and Matt Musty (drums).
The band rose to prominence in 2001 when their single “Drops of Jupiter” reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Adult Pop charts. The song won two Grammy Awards and has become one of their signature hits. While there were concerns about them being a one-hit wonder after a brief hiatus in 2006, Train made a powerful comeback in 2009.
Their return single “Hey Soul Sister” became their biggest hit to date, reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieving diamond certification (10× platinum) in the US. The song’s success helped establish Train as a consistent hitmaker in the adult contemporary and pop-rock genres.
Some of Train’s other notable singles include “Drive By,” “50 Ways to Say Goodbye,” “Play That Song,” “Marry Me,” and “If It’s Love.” The band continues to tour and perform, maintaining a strong presence in the adult contemporary music scene. Their 2022 album “AM Gold” showcased their signature sound while incorporating new elements, and they frequently tour with other prominent acts from the 1990s and 2000s.
