Thom Yorke Dials Up Theme For New Apple TV+ Show

Radiohead/The Smile frontman Thom Yorke offers a signature dash of moody ambiance on his new song “Dialing In,” which will serve as the opening theme for the upcoming Apple TV+ crime series Smoke. The show premieres June 27, while “Dialing In” is out now in standard and Dolby Atmos formats.

“Dialing In” was previously known as “Gawpers” when Yorke debuted it during a 2019 Paris concert. Per a statement, the previously unreleased song has “been fine-tuned to underscore” the themes of Smoke, which stars Taran Egerton and Jumee Smollett. The show’s log line reads, “when an arson investigator begrudgingly teams up with a police detective, their race to stop two arsonists ignites a twisted game of secrets and suspicions.”

More from Spin:

“Working with Thom Yorke was as much an honor for me as working with Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese or Richard Price,” says Smoke creator/executive producer Dennis Lehane. “I’ve somehow been blessed with collaborating with living legends who were also formative influences on my own creative life. Thom is definitely that. In addition, he took a basic concept I gave him and delivered a song that perfectly embodies the show and absolutely crushes.”

For Yorke, “Dialing In” follows the release earlier this month of a long-in-the-works collaborative album with electronic artist/producer Mark Pritchard, Tall Tales. Meanwhile, rumors abound that Radiohead may be returning to action later this year, but no official word has been forthcoming.
