Stormzy Announces Acting Debut & New Production Company

Stormzy revealed his acting debut and launched #Merky Films with Big Man, a short film set to premiere later this month.

Stormzy announced an exciting new chapter in his career on Thursday (June 12), unveiling both his acting debut and the launch of #Merky Films, a new production arm expanding his ever-growing creative empire.

The British rapper unveiled a teaser for Big Man, the first project from #Merky Films, on Instagram.

The short film, made in partnership with Apple, was shot entirely on an iPhone 16 Pro and marks Stormzy’s first leading role on screen.

He plays Tenzman, a former rap star grappling with the uncertainty of life after fame.

Directed by Academy Award winner Aneil Karia, Big Man explores themes of self-reflection and emotional growth as Tenzman forms a life-changing connection with two young boys, Klevis and Tyrell.

“I always say: music is my first love, but film is my second,” Stormzy said in a statement. “#Merky Films is something I’ve been dreaming about for ages – a space for powerful British stories and a solid home for fresh, unexpected art. It’s a natural next step for everything we do at #Merky – sharing our stories, spotlighting important voices and making room for those who deserve to be seen and heard.”

The film aims to capture the energy and optimism of youth while encouraging viewers to reconnect with their younger selves and embrace gratitude.

“I hope you love our first project, Big Man, as much as we loved making it,” Stormzy added. “For me, it’s all about the joy, spirit and fearless energy of youth – that feeling like life is one big adventure and the world’s your playground. I hope it inspires you to dream bigger, live louder and hold on to that unapologetic energy that comes with being young.”

Big Man will premiere on YouTube on June 18, 2025.

Merky Films joins Stormzy’s expanding portfolio of cultural initiatives, which already includes #Merky Books and #Merky FC, both focused on amplifying underrepresented voices in literature and football.

The rapper also reportedly has a development deal with Netflix and is working on several projects.
