South Park will be back after a short break.
After its controversial season 27 premiere, which aired July 23, sparked a feud with President Donald Trump, the animated series will return with its highly anticipated follow-up episode on Aug. 6.
Instead of a new episode, South Park will re-air its season 27 premiere episode on July 30 in a pre-planned mini hiatus, PEOPLE has learned.
The break comes after season 27’s initial premiere date was pushed back two weeks amid the ongoing merger between Comedy Central’s parent company, Paramount Global, and Skydance Media. At the time, series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone addressed the matter in a statemet shared on the show’s X account, saying: “In response to the press release from Comedy Central about the change in premiere date for ‘South Park,’ Trey Parker & Matt Stone said – This merger is a s—show and it’s f—ing up ‘South Park.’ We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.”
Parker and Stone were also in a streaming-rights battle with the media conglomerate, but they eventually reached a $1.5 billion deal with Paramount Global on July 21.

The season 27 premiere episode featured several depictions of Trump.
One scene showed a cartoon version of the president stripping naked and crawling into bed with his romantic partner, Satan. The hulking red demon compares Trump to “a guy I used to date” several times throughout the episode, which longtime fans will know is a Saddam Hussein reference.
Another scene shows the townspeople of the titular fictional Coloradan town putting together a pro-Trump PSA that shows a hyperrealistic deepfake of Trump stumbling through the desert, eventually stripping off his clothes, and collapsing on the ground while completely nude. A cartoon penis then rises into frame and says in a high-pitched voice, “I’m Donald J. Trump, and I endorse this message.”
The fake PSA ends with the voiceover saying, “His penis is teeny tiny, but his love for us is huge.”
The White House responded to the episode in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.
“The left’s hypocrisy truly has no end — for years they have come after South Park for what they labeled as ‘offense’ content, but suddenly they are praising the show,” White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers told EW in an email statement, adding that “just like the creators of South Park, the left has no authentic or original content.”
“This show hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention,” the statement continued. “President Trump has delivered on more promises in just six months than any other president in our country’s history — and no fourth-rate show can derail President Trump’s hot streak.”
Comedy Central released a teaser for its Aug. 6 episode on July 29.
South Park isn’t stopping its Trump storyline anytime soon, as evidenced by the teaser.
The president is shown groping Satan underneath a table at a fancy event, with Satan knocking his hand away and telling him to “stop.”
Elsewhere in the teaser, Cartman is seen at a press conference telling another character to shut up because “you hate America and love abortion.”
South Park airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.
