Some people win Oscars. Diane Warren collects nominations.
The 68-year-old contemporary songwriter lost yet again on Sunday, March 2, marking her 16th Academy Award snub. This time, her track “The Journey” from The Six Triple Eight lost to “El Mal” from Emilia Pérez in the Best Original Song category.

“I’m consistent as f***,” Warren quipped while speaking with Variety at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party. “You know, it is what it is, right? I’m happy to be here.”
Despite the loss, the Oscar nominee isn’t letting it get to her. “I’m the Terminator of the Oscars — I’ll be back,” she joked, channeling Arnold Schwarzenegger. “You can’t get rid of me.”
Warren, who holds the record for the most Oscar nominations by a female songwriter, first received a nod in 1987 and has been a fixture in the category ever since.
Of course, it didn’t take long for social media to react.
“16 nominations and still no win? This is a villain origin story waiting to happen ,” one person posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“Diane Warren is arguably one of the most accomplished and prolific songwriters in music history so 16 noms without a win is a f***ing joke!” another pointed out.
“The academy doesn’t like her, clearly,” chimed in a third.
“Can they just give her an honorary award at this point ,” someone else wondered.
“OH NOO worst news of the day,” added another.
Warren didn’t bring home a win, but she’s still the force behind some of the biggest hits in music. She’s penned classics like “If I Could Turn Back Time,” “Because You Loved Me,” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” Her career took off with “Rhythm of the Night” in 1985, leading to collaborations with legends like Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, and Whitney Houston.
