Say Hello to Producer.ai: The Latest Dimension of AI Song Creation

The team at Producer.ai believes there’s a musician in all of us—we just need a producer to help us realize it. Made by the people that created Riffusion, one of the first ever generative AI music models, Producer.ai is a totally new way to make, craft, and experience music. You can talk to the Producer just like a friend in the studio—asking for inspiration, basslines, and vocal takes—as you work on a song, an album, or an entirely new genre together. And what musician doesn’t dream of a great producer making their music monumental?

The Riffusion team already has more than a million people using its platform each month. The website was up for a mere three months and the founders say it may already have more songs than iTunes at this point. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to get famous or just enjoy making a soundtrack to enhance your daily life, the platform gives you a lot of options to express yourself musically through its advanced AI technology.

The platform works and feels a bit like a video game—but instead of spending hours playing a game to level up your rank, you sit down to make music. Doesn’t that seem like a much better use of creative energy? Listen for yourself to hear the quality and complexity of songs where you can cross-pollinate genres or make up your own with a mixture of rhythms, lyrics, instruments, and more.

The team’s first AI model released in December 2022 only made five-second snippets, but now it allows users to craft and remix full-length compositions using text, audio, and visual prompts that sound more like they were made in a music studio. As you interact with the platform, it learns what you like and don’t like to help generate music unique to your aesthetic. So, everything you listen to, everything you create, and every artist you follow helps unlock personalized modes of creation to help define your signature sound.

Until now, Riffusion’s name was found in conversations and comparisons of other songwriting generators like Suno and Udio: Who has the best audio? Who has the most intuitive interface? Who generates the best lyrics? One of Riffusion’s market differentiators has been its remarkably easy user interface and forward-looking approach—they’ve always done things a bit different. @SanDiegoDude on Reddit says that “Riffusion is my party-trick go-to for folks new to AI music… it’s what you send to your cousin or your aunt. Just type something in about your current mood or situation and hit go. They’ll be amazed and you don’t get stuck trying to explain song segments and credits. Riffusion is still adding features, and unlike Udio and Suno, their lyric generator is actually quite good at developing full songs with movement.”

According to Founder/CEO Seth Forsgren, a trained violinist who graduated from Princeton University, Producer.ai is the work of a small group of artists, researchers, and engineers dedicated to “furthering human creativity.” It started when Seth and his bandmates set out to create a new way of making sound with the silly idea of generating images and turning them into music. “We didn’t know if it would go anywhere and we didn’t care if anyone used it. We were building it for ourselves as musicians who marveled at how generative AI could inspire and challenge us.” Today, Seth hopes that the platform is considered to be an instrument. “You can make really beautiful art with this technology. You play it like you would play a physical instrument—only with prompts to craft and refine your sound.”

The team’s latest iteration, out this month, takes AI songwriting to yet another dimension with the introduction of the Producer.

The Producer works as an AI agent that you collaborate with to create, craft, and experience music on the platform. You can talk to it in a natural language way that looks like a ChatGPT conversation to help you try different features and sounds. Just like a friend in the studio, the Producer knows all the tricks on how to play the instrument: generating music, lyrics, remixing, swapping out sections of your composition, and more. All leading to your truly authentic sound. You can even create music visualizers on the fly with the Producer as your guide. All generations made with Producer.ai are made with the team’s new state-of-the-art music model: FUZZ-2.0.

Regarding subscriptions, there is a completely free tier for anyone to try making music with Producer.ai. For those who want more generations and controls, there are Free ($0/month), Starter ($6/month), Plus ($18/month), and Member ($48/month) tiers that offer additional credits and features. The member tier offers enough credits to generate a staggering 6000 songs per month. While the Producer.ai platform is currently invite-only, users are being let in off the waitlist daily and you can likely find invites floating around creative communities online.

Lastly, you may wonder how you own the rights to the music made on Producer.ai. It works like this. If you make a song while paying for a subscription, you are permitted to distribute it to other platforms commercially subject to any legal limitations imposed by the third party’s copyright laws or contractual limitations. Of course, it’s your responsibility to adhere to the terms of other services you’re sharing your songs with and you must hold sufficient rights to all the inputs used to create your music. It’s pretty straightforward if you created it on Producer.ai.

Artists think of Producer.ai and its models as a new instrument that’s built for the musician in all of us. It’s a place to create the music you imagine with frontier AI models, advanced controls, unlimited generations, and now with your very own producer. Think of the tool as part of your music journey, not something meant to replace it.
