When your parents are Broadway royalty and TV icons, the spotlight kind of runs in the family. But not all of Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s kids are lining up to step into it.
On Monday, April 7, Broderick, 63, told People that while their 22-year-old son, James Wilkie, is “gonna try” acting, one of their 13-year-old twin daughters — Tabitha or Marion, whom the couple welcomed via surrogate in 2009 — wants nothing to do with it.

“If you say, ‘What about you?’ She says, ‘Nope, no absolutely not,’” the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star shared at the 2025 SeriousFun Children’s Network Gala.

Broderick went on to say that despite one of the twins being “repelled” by performing, James is exploring the idea. “He’s very smart,” the dad of three explained. “He has a really good education too, so he has a lot of different things he can do, but I think right now he likes acting.”
As for helping James break into the biz? It’s a family affair.
“[Parker] is with him when he does auditions,” Broderick revealed. “It’s self-tape nowadays and she’ll read with him and tell him, ‘It’s not good.’ And you know I will too. We definitely [support him] but only if he wants to.”
Earlier this year, James made his TV debut on the hit CBS series Elsbeth, starring alongside his dad in the February 20 episode, “Foiled Again.” While speaking with People at the time, Broderick said he was “so proud and happy to work with [his] son James,” adding that he was “excited for the episode to come out.”
Broderick and Parker, 60, first met through her brothers at the Naked Angels Theater Company in 1991. After several years of dating, the couple tied the knot in 1997. Reflecting on their decades-long relationship, Parker told People in 2018, “I think marriage has a lot of vitality. If you’re fortunate, it’s like this dazzling organism.”
