In addition to the instrumentals that brought him underground renown, the Columbus DJ-producer RJD2 (back home after a years-long stint in Philly) has frequently embarked on album-length collaborations with rappers. Around the time he released his classic debut album Deadringer, he was teaming with Blueprint under the name Soul Position. “A Beautiful Mine,” the RJ track that became the Mad Men theme, started out as a beat on Magnificent City, his album with Aceyalone. So it’s no surprise that he’s got another LP-length rapper collab on deck.
Last week, RJD2 shared “Machines Like Us,” a new track with the veteran North Carolina emcee Supastition. It sounds like a video game breaking out in the middle of a classic underground boom-bap track. Today the producer revealed it’s part of a whole dang RJD2 x Supastition album called According To… Check out the song and RJ’s announcement post below.
