The first Monday in May is dedicated to all the fly fashion rappers are showcasing on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City for the annual Met Gala. This year, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell serve as the co-chairs for the event along with actor Colman Domingo and Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton and permanent Met Gala fixture, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. The dress code for the evening is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, a celebration of Black dandyism.
Rappers Suit Up for the 2025 Met Gala
On Monday evening (May 5), suiting and style were the hallmarks of the ’fits from every rapper on the red carpet, which was turned blue, at the Met Gala.
Pharrell was the first rapper to show up to the fashionable affair with his wife, Helen Lasichanh. The super-producer from Virginia opted for a Louis Vuitton embossed white tux with black trousers while his lady chose an all-black look from the luxury house and paired it with a furry LV bag: bodysuit, leather jacket, sheer tights and loafer heels.
Pusha-T pulled up next wearing a Louis Vuitton burgundy, pin-striped suit bedazzled with hundreds of crystals across his shoulders, appearing like a dusting of snow. Another V.A. rep, King Push brought the white he raps about to the Gala in a unique way.
A$AP Rocky turned up in classic all-black everything from head-to-toe. His designer attire was custom AWGE, the Harlem rapper’s creative agency. Rocky was also ready for the rain in the Big Apple by rocking a matching jacket over his black tuxedo and held onto an umbrella with a gun-shaped handle. He added some extra pizzazz with sparkling diamonds adorning his ears and neck.
That’s not all who came through dripping. Megan Thee Stallion, Future (he surprisingly ditched all his dreads), Doechii, Chance The Rapper, Doja Cat, Swizz Beatz and many more stepped out in the spirit of Black dandyism, a form of power, resistance and identity through fashion using self-expression and subtle rebellion against societal norms.
