We’re about a month out from Normal Isn’t, Tool/A Perfect Circle frontman Maynard James Keenan’s latest Puscifer album. Today brings the project’s final advance single, “ImpetuoUs,” a creeping electronic track that leans into the feminine side of Keenan’s vocals. The strobing synth action here reminds me of Y2K-era action movies, but eventually the song takes a surprisingly soulful turn. “They’re always afraid of what they don’t understand,” he sings. “We’ll never be how they would have us/ This is a good thing.”
Keenan’s statement on this one:
I’m looking forward to hearing where this song takes people. As the writers, we forget that in a way, we are carpenters and that we’ve been with this song since it was a pile of lumber. Our Perspective may differ from the final occupant of this space we’ve constructed. Shelter, Bridge or Gallows, Coffin? Curious to find out.
