Pinterest Rolls Out Enhanced Visual Search Features


Pinterest is looking to enhance discovery in the app, by adding more options for visual search, which will make it easier for users to segment different elements of each Pin image to find related, or more personally relevant products.

As you can see in this example sequence, Pinterest is updating its visual search process to simplify discovery, based on specific elements of a Pin image.

As explained by Pinterest:

We’re breaking down and decoding images so users can quickly search and shop for the details of an outfit. Whether it’s an overall aesthetic, a color palette, a specific fit, or product category, when users view a Pin, we’ll now generate the words they can use to figure out what they like about the image, and then further explore and shop.”

Pinterest is also looking to make it easier to access its visual search elements, by enabling users to long-press on any Pin to switch to the visual discovery process.

It’s also adding extra customization options for your related search:

“Ever come across something you love but want it in a different color, style, or fabric? We’re adding a new refinement bar that’ll help users narrow their search results, so they can find exactly what fits their personal style. For example, you spot an outfit you like, and use the “style” refinement to see similar outfits but more y2k, or you love this blue blazer, and use the “occasion” refinement to see more formal options.”

Pinterest says that its updated visual discovery process will utilize generative AI to better match user interests with more relevant Pins.

Finally, Pinterest has also added a new “animated glow” to better highlight each element.

It’s a good update, which will help Pin users find more relevant products that align with their own style preferences.

Plus, it looks better, and simple design changes like this can freshen up and enhance the in-app experience.

Pinterest says that its updated search tools will initially be made available for women’s fashion content across the U.K., U.S. and Canada, and will expand to more categories and countries over time.
