A woman in Wales says she found her partner dead on the sofa, just days before their twin daughters’ first birthday.

Chloe Powles, 34, of Pencoed, recently recalled the tragedy while speaking to local news outlet Wales Online. She said that her partner, Alex Green, 30, had taken to sleeping on the sofa in their living room so as not to disturb their twins, Livie and Georgina, who have rare health conditions and require close monitoring.

Chloe said that when she went downstairs on the morning of Aug. 20, she discovered Alex’s lifeless body.

“At 8:04 a.m. I rang the ambulance because when I came down in the morning, he was sitting up on the sofa, blue and stiff,” she said, adding, “It ruined me — I can’t even put it into words.”

Chloe said Alex’s body will undergo an autopsy, though she was told it could take months or even years to determine his cause of death.

Chloe went on to tell Wales Online that their family gathered to celebrate the twins’ first birthday two days after Alex’s death, but she had to leave the room when people started singing “Happy Birthday.”

“I couldn’t do it,” she recalled of joining in the song.

“I’m not really coping, but I have to be okay for the girls,” she continued. “It’s just hard. I’d love to just not be okay, but I have the girls to think about.”

In addition to the twins, Alex and Chloe each have older daughters from previous relationships. Chloe told the outlet that her situation is compounded by the health needs of the two youngest children.

Livie was born with a form of dwarfism that affects her ability to eat and maintain a healthy body weight. She has a permanent feeding tube in her nose and may require a peg, which is a feeding tube inserted directly into the abdomen.

Additionally, Georgina was recently diagnosed with tumors in both eyes.

“She [Georgina] was amazing — never without a smile on her face. And then this one night, Alex said to me, ‘There’s something wrong with her eyes,’ ” Chloe recalled.

Georgina is currently receiving chemotherapy and has lost central vision in her right eye, her mom told Wales Online. Chloe said she must travel to a hospital in Birmingham, England — which is about a two-hour drive from her home — every two weeks for Georgina’s treatment.

“It is torture to watch her go through everything,” Chloe said, noting, “Everything is my decision now without Alex — what if I make the wrong decision?”

A friend of the family has since established a JustGiving page to help Chloe and her children during this difficult time. As of Saturday, Nov. 8, the fundraising page has raised a total of $3,745 toward an ultimate goal of $6,580.
