“That’s the saddest day in the life of a marriage,” Lionel added of the ordeal between himself and Brenda. “When you know you may love each other, still, and you have a history that you will always have, but it’s over. And you know it.”
But Lionel didn’t get his happily ever after with Diane, either. After welcoming son Miles Richie in 1994 and daughter Sofia Richie in 1998, the couple called it quits in 2004.
“I will forever give it up to both of my exes for being strong, loving, and devoted moms,” the “Lady” artist wrote in his memoir. “Nicole and Brenda were two peas in a pod from the start. Miles and Sofia adore Diane, as she adores them both.”
E! News has reached out to Brenda and Diane for comment but hasn’t heard back.
