King Charles III departed his Clarence House residence in London on Friday, March 28, following a brief hospital stay the day before, Buckingham Palace confirmed to Us Weekly.
Charles, 76, experienced “temporary side effects” from his ongoing cancer treatment “that required a short period of observation in hospital,” a palace spokesperson said on Thursday.
The spokesperson added that the king’s scheduled engagements on Friday would be rearranged.
The monarch waved to the public as he was driven away from Clarence House on Friday.
Chris Ship, royal editor at the U.K.’s ITV News, wrote on X that Charles was traveling to Highgrove, the royal family’s country estate in Gloucestershire, England. (This has not been officially confirmed by the palace.)
“Some photos of King Charles as he heads to his Gloucestershire home, Highgrove, for the weekend,” Ship wrote on X alongside two photos of the king.
“He’s seen behind his (purposely) wound down window as he leaves Clarence House after Thursday’s hospital visit,” he added. “It serves as a reminder that the Head of State is still having cancer treatment more than a year after it started.”
The king had a busy day of engagements on Wednesday before his brief hospitalization; he unveiled a plaque at London’s Somerset House and hosted a Buckingham Palace reception that evening.
It’s not known if Charles’ wife, Queen Camilla, will accompany him to Highgrove at the weekend.
The couple previously hosted a glamorous dinner at the estate in February, attended by Stanley Tucci, as well as David and Victoria Beckham.
Camilla, 77, and Victoria, 50, were later seen reminiscing about the evening while catching up at a Buckingham Palace reception in March.
“Victoria, nice to see you. Did you enjoy the Italian dinner at Highgrove? It was good fun,” Camilla asked.
“It was a lot of fun, thank you so much,” Victoria responded.
