Killer Mike Attends 2026 Grammys with Wife Shana Following 2024 Arrest at Awards Show

Killer Mike has made a return to the Grammys, two years after being escorted from the awards ceremony in handcuffs.

Killer Mike, whose real name is Michael Render, posed on the 2026 Grammys red carpet alongside his wife, Shana Render, on Sun., Feb. 1. It was their first appearance at the awards show after he was booked on a misdemeanor following an alleged physical altercation with a security guard in 2024. He was not charged in the incident.

The performer, 50, attended this year’s event wearing a green tracksuit with a large statement necklace. He walked hand-in-hand with his wife, who matched her husband in a gold embellished dress.

Killer Mike is nominated at the 2026 Grammys alongside T.I. and Lecrae for their work on “Headphones.” The track is up for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.

Back in 2024, the performer won Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “Scientist & Engineers,” and Best Rap Album for Michael, awarded during the show’s pre-telecast ceremony.

Killer Mike’s arrest came shortly after he scored wins in three of the four categories he was nominated for that year.

The LAPD confirmed on  at the time that an adult male who “was detained & handcuffed for a physical altercation that occurred at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court” was placed under arrest and transported to the LAPD Central Division.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Killer Mike later clarified what happened.

“As you can imagine, there was a lot going and there was some confusion around which door my team and I should enter. We experienced an over-zealous security guard but my team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing. Until that time, keep listening to Michael, and keep going after your dreams,” he said.

Killer Mike also said at the time that he and his team received “a number of calls from concerned fans and colleagues wanting to know if I was OK.”

“I greatly appreciate the concern and support, but I am better than OK,” Killer Mike continued.

“We are incredibly proud and are basking in this moment. I am also grateful that one of my prayers has been answered – the day after my Grammy win – I learned that my son, who has been on the list for a kidney for years, finally has a match. Obviously, we are elated,” his statement continued.

The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office ultimately revealed it would not be pursuing criminal charges against Killer Mike in June 2024.

“Mr. Render has successfully completed the Office’s Hearing process, including a community service requirement that was imposed,” a representative from the L.A. City Attorney’s Office told PEOPLE in a statement at the time.

In February 2025, Killer Mike sued the private security companies that worked for the 2024 Grammys for false arrest, assault, and battery, among other charges, per Variety. The status of that lawsuit is unclear.
