Kevin Federline claims to have his and Britney Spears’ sons’ stamp of approval regarding his new memoir, despite some of the things written about the pop star in its pages.
The 47-year-old former dancer, who shares sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, with the “Toxic” singer, 43, told Extra in a Thursday, Oct. 16 interview that their boys are at an age where they can decide for themselves that they are fine with what he chooses to discuss.
“My kids are old enough to understand and approve what I’m doing,” Federline told the outlet of his account of their childhood and his relationship with Spears in the upcoming You Thought You Knew, out Oct. 21.

From 2004 to 2007, Federline and Spears were married. It was 2007 when the “Oops!…I Did It Again” singer made headlines for shaving her head, which he details in his book.
He alleges that she checked herself out of a rehab facility and appeared at the gate of his home, yelling, among other things, “LET. ME. IN,” before allegedly “climbing the front gate.”
“I couldn’t stand to see her like this,” he writes, claiming he did not give Spears access because she was allegedly “in no condition to be around our kids.”
She left, and when a stylist allegedly refused to cut her hair, Federline claims she “took matters into her own hands” and headed to a gas station next, where “things escalated.”
Spears was photographed swinging an umbrella at paparazzi with her newly shaved head.
However, the claims of the “Circus” singer allegedly attempting to climb his gate isn’t the only topic his memoir covers.
He also claims Spears drank alcohol while she was on medication and pregnant with their sons, and allegedly once did cocaine before trying to breastfeed the children.
“That mix was… dangerous. F—ed up, honestly,” Federline writes. “You’re not supposed to drink when you’re on meds like that. A couple of glasses of wine for her would hit like a whole bottle because of the medication.”
Additionally, he claims that after the pop star’s conservatorship ended in 2021, her “erratic” behavior caused their sons to stop using social media in an attempt to avoid seeing hurtful posts about her online.
Federline says his “breaking point” came in 2023 when Spears allegedly told one of their sons she wished he, his brother and their father “were all dead” because her boys disagreed with being the cause of her “problems.”

“Preston, to his credit, confronted her. He called out her lies and refused to accept her narrative. Her response was chilling: she told him she wished he, his brother, and me were all dead,” Federline writes. “Hearing Preston recount that conversation devastated me… Trauma like that left scars, ones I fear they’ll carry for the rest of their lives.”
On Tuesday, Oct. 14 a rep for Spears shared a statement with PEOPLE responding to Federline’s memoir and the allegations in it.
“With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin,” it said.
The statement continued: “All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir.”

Spears has also issued two personal statements to social media herself. In the first, she wrote that she’s “had enough” of Federline “constantly gaslighting her. “Relationships with teenage boys is complex,” she wrote on Wednesday, Oct. 15. “Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by [their] own father for me. They need to take responsibility for themselves.” In an additional statement on Thursday, Oct. 16, Spears said, “If you really love someone then you don’t help them by humiliating them … They secretly love to cast me out and make me feel completely isolated.”
You Thought You Knew by Kevin Federline will be available Tuesday.
