A few months ago, the Houston band Shallowater released God’s Gonna Give You A Million Dollars, a sort of intense, countrified slowcore LP. It’s awesome, and it’s one of our 50 favorite albums of the year. (It’s #50, but still.) Today, Shallowater have a new collaboration Jordan Raf, an experimental LA pop artist who last popped up on our radar by playing around with bedroom R&B on his 2016 album Double Negative.
Jordan Raf and Shallowater’s new song “From My Wings” isn’t long, but it feels like a big gesture anyway. The guitars sprawl in every direction, and Raf’s voice has a great, regretful croak to it. The song is all about doing something wrong and then having no idea to fix it, which is about as universal as it gets. I like this one. Listen below.
