Despite their fast-paced lifestyle, Jake Paul and fiancée Jutta Leerdam are in no rush to tie the knot.
On Wednesday, March 26, the professional boxer, 28, and Olympic speed skater, 26, made their first red carpet appearance since getting engaged. While walking the carpet at the New York City premiere of Paul American, HBO Max’s new reality series following Jake and his brother Logan Paul, the couple opened up about wedding planning.
“We are as fast as possible. She has the Olympics in 11 months, so we’re going to be pretty busy until then,” Paul tells PEOPLE. “But after that, we’ll start planning.”

Leerdam — who will compete in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy — agreed that focusing on training is her top priority. While she loves her “amazing” and “gorgeous” diamond engagement ring, calling it “the best ring ever,” she’s working hard to add a gold medal to her accessory collection.
“I first have the Olympics on the schedule, so I can’t plan before that,” she tells PEOPLE. “I’m not allowed by myself, at first. I first want to work towards the Olympics, get everything out of there, and of course I’m going for that Olympic gold. And then after, yeah, I can start planning. So the wedding will probably be the summer after.”
Paul and Leerdam, who made their relationship Instagram official in April 2023, announced their engagement on Saturday, March 22.
“We’re engaged💍🕊️🤍we can’t wait to spend forever together🥹,” the former YouTuber wrote in the caption of a joint Instagram post alongside photos from the proposal.
The post kicked off with a picture of Paul down on one knee atop a bed of white rose petals. A calm body of water and towering mountains served as the breathtaking backdrop. Leerdam appeared shocked as she held a hand to her mouth. In another photo, she jumped up into the air with excitement.

Paul admits he was “very nervous” to propose.
“I was very nervous for the engagement, way more nervous than any of my fights, so it was all choked up and she makes me nervous, I guess,” he tells PEOPLE.

While Leerdam suspected that a proposal was coming, she had no idea that her parents would be there to surprise her afterward.
“I had a feeling, but I didn’t know my parents were going to be there, so that was the biggest surprise ever,” she says. “I was in shock, but it was the best day of my life, really.”
The 2022 Winter Olympic Games silver medalist also told PEOPLE that Paul is “the most romantic guy in the world” and she feels “super lucky” to be marrying him. “He is doing it all for me. Like it’s the sweetest thing and I’m super lucky. I don’t think people expect that from him,” she said.
