There’s a good chance that you know Pierce Jordan as the frontman for the chaotic, incisive, generally excellent Philadelphia punk band Soul Glo. Their album Diaspora Problems was one of the best of 2022. Now, Jordan has a new band where he’s the drummer, not the singer. In the new group Commitment, Jordan is joined by guitarist Jake Smith, bassist Zach Bailey, and singer Tati Salazar, who has released solo music as the Childlike Empress and Le Siren.
Commitment quietly released their six-song demo earlier this year. Seriously, I had zero idea that it existed, and I would’ve been interested. Now, they’ve signed to Get Better and released their the demo track “Hellraiser” as their first proper single. On her own, Tati Salazar makes indie pop, and she’s never sung for a hardcore punk band before Commitment. Judging by “Hellraiser,” she’s a natural. The song is a fast, frantic minute-long rager that’s more straightforward than anything I can remember Soul Glo making, and Salazar attacks it with presence and charisma. This shit goes hard.
Right now, Commitment are out on tour with Chicago’s Stress Positions, and I need to get to one of those shows. Below, check out their “Hellraiser” video and their tour dates.
