And because ohana means family—and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten—Maia has continued to bring her family of fans along for the promotion of the film, sharing how she relates to her character.
“We’re both Hawaiian. We love to dance hula,” she told ET. “That was my favorite scene. I have a lot of favorite scenes too. And she’s very crafty. [I’m] very crafty. Every time my mom enters the room, she’s like, ‘What are these papers doing all over the place?’ I’m like, ‘Uh, I’m trying to pick them up, but there’s too much falling out of my hands.'”
The young star has given her social media followers glimpses into her life off-camera, too—including her Disneyland visits, red carpet events and family outings. And as a devoted member of the Mouse House, she’s also shared clips of herself dancing and singing to Disney hits like “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana, “What Dreams Are Made Of” from The Lizzie McGuire Movie and “The Climb” from Hannah Montana: The Movie.
“It’s the climb!” she captioned a March 19 Instagram video of her belting out the Miley Cyrus song. “Just a fun karaoke moment after watching The Hannah Montana movie for the 100th time.”
Lilo & Stitch surfs into theaters May 23, and Maia wants fans to catch the wave of excitement.
“It’s very fun and amazing, and I can’t wait for you guys to see it,” she told E! News back in November. “It’s going to be a blast.”
