Florence Pugh doesn’t shy away from showing her work to her family — even if the subject matter can sometimes make things awkward.

The Thunderbolts* actress recounted one such instance during a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers Wednesday, April 30, remembering how she took her grandparents to the movie theater to see her breakout 2019 horror flick Midsommar.

“I remember afterwards, my granddad going, ‘Welp … I wouldn’t have watched it if you weren’t in it,’ ” said Pugh, 29, mimicking his voice. “I’m like, ‘Not surprised.’ But he was like, ‘You were brilliant, absolutely brilliant, darling.’ ”

One of the scenes she “forgot” about before the screening that made everything extra weird? “When there’s a naked body splayed over, like, breathing organisms,” Pugh said of the Ari Aster film. “And I was like, ‘How am I supposed to explain this to my grandparents?’ ”

Of her work in the film overall, Pugh told host Seth Meyers, “I think I’d just worked so hard on it and I knew the performance that I’d given, and I knew how impactful that time shooting it was that I was like, ‘Well, of course my family will want to see that.’ ”

“Then you watch it with all the people that you’ve taken and you’re like [mouthing], ‘Oh, f—,’ ” she joked.

Said Meyers, 51, “The only thing I could imagine being more distressing than watching that movie — which, again, I love — is if somebody filmed your grandparents watching it and I just had to watch their faces over the course of it.”

Written and directed by Aster, 38, Midsommar required Pugh to go to dark places as the lead character Dani, who finds herself trapped by a Swedish cult while traveling with a group, after enduring a huge tragedy in her life.

The film kicked off a string of big roles for Pugh, including Little Women (2019), Black Widow (2021), Don’t Worry Darling (2022), Oppenheimer (2023), Dune: Part Two (2024) and We Live in Time (2024).

Pugh has been also open about her closeness with her family over the years, and said on Late Night Wednesday that her entire brood, including her Granny Pat, “just loves being a part” of her career goings-on.

“My whole family are such brilliant supporters,” said the Oscar nominee. “They will be there come rain or come shine. Even when I’m not in the city to attend the premiere [of one of my projects], they will be there and they will show up in, like, full Pugh force.”

“They are just massive supporters, no matter what I do,” she added.

Thunderbolts* is in theaters May 2.
