The straight-edge metallic hardcore band Excessive Force were based in Orange County for a few years in the mid-’90s before frontman Dan Gump went on to record with Decontaminate, then leave the scene altogether. At the time of their sole album release, 1995’s In Your Blood, Gump (who also ran Life Sentence Records) was an aircraft mechanic in the Marine Corps, which complicated touring plans. In Your Blood was reissued a bunch of times since then, most recently by the French label Knives Out last year, and yesterday Excessive Force brought their angry metalcore to the stage for the first time in 30 years.
At the Orlando Warehouse on Saturday (Jan. 10) Gump said that Excessive Force hadn’t played since 1996. “We’re just really glad to be here, and glad people give a shit,” he said before they tore into “Backtrack.” They did seven songs from In Your Blood and Inspirit Records got video of them all. One of last night’s guitarists looks like he was not yet born when the band last played a show. Check out footage below.
