The first day of Diddy‘s sex trafficking trial started yesterday and the embattled music mogul was paying especially close attention to the proceedings as his freedom is in the balance.
Jury Selection for Diddy Trial Underway
On Monday (May 5), Sean “Diddy” Combs’ trial began with the first day of jury selection at the New York federal courthouse in Lower Manhattan. Dozens of New Yorkers were summoned to see if they would be a part of the official jury for the case. Puff was front and center along with his lawyers.
“Today, Diddy was in court wearing his court-authorized uniform, which was a white shirt, a black sweater, black pants and glasses,” Fox 5 News‘ Lisa Evers reported. “[He was] paying very close attention to every single word these potential jurors were saying, as well as what the judge was saying.”
According to Daily Beast, the Bad Boy confounder was intently taking notes throughout the entire process.
Thirteen potential jurors were excluded for a number of reasons. Some people were sexual assault survivors or were closely related to sexual assault survivors. Others were disqualified for being related to law enforcement members or having their own run-ins with police. Language barriers caused others to be dismissed. Jury selection will continue today (May 6).
Diddy has been charged with racketeering conspiracy, two counts of sex trafficking and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He rejected a plea deal last week.
The trial is expected to begin on May 12. Diddy is facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison if found guilty.
