The search reignited jokes over the Michigan native’s nickname: “Doo Doo Garbage.”
DDG called out Apple Music on Thursday (July 3) after users noticed that typing the poop emoji into the platform’s search bar pulled up his music alongside novelty songs like “The Poop Song,” prompting the rapper to demand answers.
“Who at Apple Music trolling me since I dropped my new song?” he posted on X, formerly Twitter, along with crying emojis. “Apple Music fix this gang.”

The bizarre search result surfaced the same day he released a new track, adding insult to injury. He later reposted a screenshot from Pop Crave showing the same emoji-linked results and added, “Noooooo not on the same day I drop my song.”
The emoji mishap reignited a long-running internet joke that DDG’s initials stand for “Doo Doo Garbage,” a nickname first introduced by YouTuber SoLLUMINATI in June 2023. The phrase quickly caught on and became a meme, especially after Spotify searches for “💩💩” also led to DDG’s artist page.
The trolling didn’t stay online. During Dream Con, a man called DDG “Doo Doo Garbage” to his face, which led to a scuffle involving his brother DuB. The altercation was caught on video and later cited in court during DDG’s custody battle with actress and singer Halle Bailey.
Despite the meme’s persistence, DDG has repeatedly clarified that his stage name is simply an abbreviation of his full name, Daryl Dwayne Granberry. He’s addressed the ridicule with a mix of sarcasm and irritation, often responding directly to the jokes on social media.
Apple Music has yet to issue a statement regarding the emoji search glitch.
DDG, a Michigan native, first gained attention on YouTube before transitioning into music. Known for blending rap with melodic hooks, he’s built a sizable following through both his tracks and online presence. The emoji search issue was still active as of Friday (July 4).
