Carrie Underwood Cries During American Idol Song “String Cheese”

Carrie Underwood was blown away by one contestant’s story.

In fact, the American Idol judge felt such a strong emotional connection to contestant Hannah Harper’s song “String Cheese,” about her personal experience with postpartum depression, that Carrie was left in tears.

As for the song’s backstory?

“I was sitting on my couch wallowing,” Hannah told judges Carrie, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, on the Feb. 2 episode. “And you have boys, you know: Everybody wants to touch you. And I didn’t want to be touched. I was just having a pity party, praying that the Lord would calm my spirit.”

“And my son kept coming up to me, ‘Mom, open this. Mom, open my cheese,’” the mom of three continued through tears. “I’m like, ‘Leave me alone with the dadgum cheese.’”

However, when Hannah finally opened her son’s string cheese, she had an epiphany that being a mom was what she was called to do.
