Bruce Springsteen sure picked the most appropriate place for a Paul McCartney surprise appearance by bringing out the Beatles legend last night (June 7) during the second of two shows in the Fab Four’s Liverpool, England, hometown.
“You’re lucky tonight,” Springsteen told the crowd at Anfield. “We have a young man, a local young man from Liverpool, he’s gonna play with us tonight, I think he has a lot of talent and I believe he’s gonna be going places.”

McCartney then took lead on the Beatles’ “Can’t Buy Me Love,” which the E Street Band had never previously played live. He stuck around for a cover of the Beatles-popularized “Kansas City,” which Springsteen and company hadn’t performed since 2012.
On Friday, both musicians met with students at the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts, which McCartney co-founded in 1996. They have previously performed together on several occasions, most recently at McCartney’s 80th birthday concert in New Jersey and at the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival.
