Few things freaked us out back in the day quite like Anaconda.
Featuring Jon Voight as a nefarious snake hunter, the movie follows a group of explorers — including a documentary filmmaker played by Jennifer Lopez, her cameraman, played by Ice Cube and several other team members — who go off into the Amazon looking for a forgotten tribe.
Things go awry when they run into Voight’s character, Paul Serone, who promises to help them in their endeavors but has other plans. Lots of horrifying deaths later, and we have a cult classic that helped launch the careers of some of our favorite stars today — as well as a reboot on the way starring Jack Black, Paul Rudd and Thandiwe Newton.

Jon Voight as Paul Serone

Jon Voight brought his acting chops to Anaconda, playing the sketchy and murderous snake hunter Paul Serone. But the 1997 film wasn’t his first or last time scaring us on the big screen. Voight made a career out of playing bad guys, bringing the villain vibes to films such as Varsity Blues, Enemy of the State Mission: Impossible, among other films.
Voight married actress Lauri Peters in 1962, but they divorced five years later. He then wed Marcheline Bertrand in 1971, and they welcomed two children together — Angelina Jolie and James Haven — but divorced in 1980.
Owen Wilson as Gary Dixon

Before he became one of the biggest comedic actors of the early aughts, Anaconda was one of Owen Wilson’s earliest roles. The actor went on to film blockbusters such as Zoolander, You, Me and Dupree, Wedding Crashers, Marley & Me and more.
Though Wilson never married, the actor has three kids. He welcomed his first child, son Robert Ford, in January 2011 with then-girlfriend Jade Duell. Three years later, in January 2014, Wilson had a second son, Finn, with trainer Caroline Lindqvist. In October 2018, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that Wilson also fathered a daughter named Lyla with Varunie Vongsvirates.
Jennifer Lopez as Terri Flores

Following her breakthrough role as Selena Quintanilla in the eponymous biopic about the late singer, Jennifer Lopez continued to build her movie career with the role of Terri. Of course, she would go on to become one of the biggest names in Hollywood, following up with films such as Maid in Manhattan, The Wedding Planner, Monster-in-Law, Enough and many more.
The Bronx native also was a superstar in the ’00s pop scene, releasing nine albums and selling millions of records worldwide.
Lopez has been married four times, to Ojani Noa, Chris Judd, Marc Anthony, and Ben Affleck. The multi-hyphenate welcomed her “coconuts,” twins Max and Emme, with Anthony in 2008.
Ice Cube as Danny Rich

Around the same time, NWA rapper Ice Cube was also making his transition to the big screen. The L.A. legend played Danny Rich, who suffered one of the more gruesome deaths in the film.
Ice Cube (born O’Shea Jackson) also launched a successful film career, starring in classics such as Boyz n Hood, Friday, Barbershop and Ride Along. In 2015, his career came full circle as his son, O’Shea Jackson Jr. played him in the Oscar-nominated Straight Outta Compton, which chronicled the early days of N.W.A.
In addition to O’Shea Jr., Ice Cube welcomed three more kids — Darrell, Kareema and Shareef — with his long-term love, Kimberly Woodruff, whom he married in 1992.
Eric Stoltz as Dr. Steven Cale

Playing the know-it-all professor of anthropology was Eric Stoltz as Dr. Steven Cale. Fans will probably recognize him for other prominent roles in Pulp Fiction, The Butterfly Effect, Caprica, Madam Secretary and more.
Stoltz has been married to wife Bernadette Moley since 2005. The couple shares one daughter.
Vincent Castellanos as Mateo

Like Voight, Castellanos was in charge of serving us the villain-y vibes and he did not disappoint. Following his role as Mateo in Anaconda, the actor continues to score roles here and there, appearing in Mulholland Dr., NYPD, Twin Peaks and more, though he has largely drawn away from the limelight.
His last credited appearance was in the Charli xcx ft. Rina Sawayama video for “Beg for You.”
Kari Wuhrer as Denise Kalberg

Offsetting Voight’s reign of terror on the boat was Kari Wuhrer, who masterfully played the role of the petrified Denise Kalberg, Gary’s love interest. Following the release of Anaconda, Wuhrer acted in Lincoln Heights, General Hospital, and voicing several characters in The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem, The Marvel Experience and more.
Jonathan Hyde as Warren Westridge

Eagle-eyed fans will recognize this familiar face from Titanic, but Jonathan Hyde also lent his talent to many adventure films, including Jumanji, The Mummy, The Princess of Thieves, among other notable works.
The Australian actor has been married to wife Isobel Buchanan since 1980. The couple have two children.
Danny Trejo as a Poacher

Danny Trejo‘s role may have been short, but the actor still managed to deliver a memorable performance. Another Hollywood veteran who plays bad guys with ease, Trejo has been made appearances in Walker, Texas Ranger, From Dusk Till Dawn, Machete, The Last Exorcist and more.
The actor is a father of three.
