Amanda Seyfried Says Thomas Sadoski Makes ‘Sacrifices’ for Her Career

Amanda Seyfried gave rare insight into her dynamic with husband Thomas Sadoski while navigating one of her busiest chapters in Hollywood.

“[He] sacrifices a lot for me,” Seyfried, 40, revealed in her Vogue digital cover story, published Thursday, January 8. “He also knows that, in this moment, the opportunities I’m being afforded are insane.”

Seyfried and Sadoski, 49, have been married since 2017 and welcomed their first child, a daughter, that same year. They also share a son, who was born in 2020.

Seyfried told Vogue that she does “say no a lot” to various offers, also sharing a glimpse of her experience as a working mom.

Amanda Seyfried was in a “dead-end” relationship when she met husband Thomas Sadoski. “We were both involved with other people,” Seyfried, 40, recalled during the Thursday, December 18, episode of the “Dear Chelsea” podcast. “I just assumed he thought I was a loser because that’s how I viewed myself when it came to men.” Seyfried […]

“My world’s moving so fast, and there’s so many things I have to do each day,” she acknowledged when asked whether her kids understand her career. “And there’s no way I can express what I’m doing. I just make very clear every day: ‘I really would rather be home with you.’”

With two major projects at the box office — Seyfried stars in The Housemaid and The Testament of Ann Lee, the latter of which earned her nominations at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes — the actress stays mindful of her busy schedule.

“It’s the privilege I have at this point in my career,” she told Vogue. “I can say, ‘Listen, I’ll make this work, but … I have to sleep with my kids Friday night, Saturday, Sunday — I have to go to bed with them.’ That’s my only rule. And it does fuel me. I mean, it probably helps them, but it definitely helps me.”

The Testament of Ann Lee director Mona Fastvold understood Seyfried’s boundaries, noting to the outlet, “It matters to her that she chooses projects that she cares about, because what she wants is to be with her family, obviously, to be on her farm.”

Throughout her time in the spotlight, Seyfried has kept her personal life relatively private. Last month, she opened up about meeting Sadoski while she was in a “dead-end” relationship.

Lewis Pullman shared the guidance he received from his famous dad, Bill Pullman, about working in showbiz. Lewis, 32, exclusively told Us Weekly at The Testament of Ann Lee premiere on December 14 in Hollywood that his father, 72, takes a more narrative-led approach to imparting wisdom. “I get so much great and valuable advice […]

“We were both involved with other people,” she said on the “Dear Chelsea” podcast. “I just assumed he thought I was a loser because that’s how I viewed myself when it came to men. … I was in a relationship where I was completely just not seen.”

Seyfried noted that she “had the dream” of settling down with a family someday, so she “opened” herself up to something new. She met Sadoski while starring together in the 2015 Off-Broadway production of The Way We Get By, which was the “first and only” time she attempted theater.

“I really liked his voice and I liked the fact that he had salt-and-pepper hair,” she recalled. “He’s a theater guy, so his feet were so solidly on the ground when it came to that kind of work, and I was so scared.”

Sadoski helped Seyfried feel “really safe and seen,” which wasn’t something she was used to. “I think when you’re really scared and you have someone who’s like, ‘Here, take my hand,’ you can’t help but fall in love with something about them — whether they’re a man or a woman — you feel safe,” she said. “I felt safe with him.”
