Not long ago, Queens Of The Stone Age became the first band ever to get permission to play in the Paris Catacombs, the cemetery tunnels under the city. That’s where they taped Queens Of The Stone Age: Alive In The Catacombs, the absorbing concert film and EP that they released earlier this year. More recently frontman Josh Homme sat down with Stereogum morbidity correspondent Rachel Brown to talk about that experience and about death itself.
In their conversation, Homme and Brown talk about Homme’s fascination with the Catacombs, texting and leaving voicemails for dead friends, and the story of a near-death experience that Homme had when he was 12: “I remember it well, and I remember thinking, ‘I’m just going to do what I want to do. I don’t think I should wait and just do what everyone else says, you know?'” Watch the interview below.
Alive In The Catacombs is out now on Matador. The band wrapped up their Catacombs tour last week. Next year, they’ll tour Europe with System Of A Down and with the Foo Fighters in North America.
