Snapchat may soon unpin its My AI chatbot from the top of your chat feed, based on whether you actually use it, and if it’s adding to your Snap experience.
As every Snapchat user would be aware, back in 2023, Snapchat launched its My AI chatbot, which provides an AI assistant in the app, ready to respond to any of your queries.
As you can see, the My AI chatbot suddenly appeared at the top of every users’ chat feed, which, despite the bot seeing solid usage, has been an annoyance for some who carefully curate their Snap conversations.
And the thing is, you can’t get rid of it. If you don’t like My AI appearing at the top of your chat feed, you can’t actually remove it, as there’s no option to do so in the related settings. Unless you subscribe to Snapchat+.
Snapchat+ subscribers do have an option to “Unlink” the My AI chat, which removes it from view. But non-paying users don’t.
Yet.
Snap’s currently testing new options for its My AI display, based on how much people use the AI feature. And if you don’t ever engage with My AI, it could soon disappear from your inbox, though you’ll still be able to refer to the bot at any time.
Which seems like a positive step, giving users more control over their Snap experience.
Though, at the same time, a lot of people are using My AI, with more than 500 million Snap users engaging with the bot. That’s over half of Snap’s 900 million total monthly actives, so even if/when Snap does enact the option to remove it, it seems like most probably won’t either way.
So Snap, essentially, will seemingly look to use an initial period of time as a testing ground to measure your interest. And if you don’t pay any attention to My AI, it’ll soon take that as a cue to hide it.
Snap hasn’t put a timeline on any changes to the bot’s presentation, but it has confirmed that it is exploring (and testing) options on this front. So if My AI has disappeared from your inbox, this would be why.
