9 Best New Movies & Shows to Stream

As summer creeps along, lots of our favorite TV shows are coming to an end — but the season of blockbusters is just beginning.

This weekend, May 17-18, marks the return of a reality show that nearly broke the internet last year: The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. For those who may not be reality TV inclined, but prefer art of the longer form, we’ve also got two very exciting movies lined up this week: a pop star’s movie debut and a super bloody, thrilling horror.

None of that strikes your fancy? All good, this week has true crime, a new comedy show, multiple season finales and an extra special live event.

And there’s more! Here’s a list of the 9 best new movies and shows to watch this weekend and where to stream them.

Hurry Up Tomorrow

If you’re like me and are eagerly anticipating your date on the After Hours Til Dawn tour, then this movie is perfectly made for you. What may have intitially seemed like a visual accompaniment to music icon The Weeknd‘s latest album of the same name, Hurry Up Tomorrow is actually a darker tale of a singer who has to reckon with his own truth — and own the damage he’s done — before it’s too late.

The Canadian hitmaker, born Abel Tesfaye, stars as himself with Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan rounding out the small cast. In a series of sequences with many flashing, blinding lights (pun intended), Tesfaye tells a fictionalized version of his own story and faces his comeuppance.

Hurry Up Tomorrow releases in theaters on May 16.

Final Destination: Bloodlines

After a 14-year hiatus, Final Destination is back — and gorier than ever. Known for its deluge of gruesome deaths that just get more bizarre with each iteration, Final Destination is now returning for a sixth movie.

Like its predecessors, the horror deals with Death, who is coming for one family with an overwhelming vengeance and a thirst for blood (like, a lot of it).

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 2

The never-ending thirst for more scandalous Mormon content is real. You know it, I know it and Hulu certainly knows it which is why The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is back for season 2 less than a year after season 1 premiered.

The sex-swinging scandal that rocked the nation (ok, maybe just TikTok, but still!) has ever more drama to give as the eight women who make up #MomTok welcome a new blonde into the group: Miranda McWhorter. And the tea is hot as the former #MomTok influencer tries to break back into the content-creating squad — and shares her side of the swinging situation.

Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story

Well, now it wouldn’t be a What to Watch if we didn’t have a true crime option. This week, Netflix has a horrifying tale of a murderous couple, Fred and Rose West, who sexually assaulted and killed at least a dozen young women together, including their own daughter.

Now, Rose is living out the rest of her life in prison while Fred hung himself in jail before he stood trial. Their crimes are documented in the docuseries Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story, which was released on May 14.

Untold: The Liver King

Remember Bryan Johnson, the man who wants to live forever? Well, Netflix has found another one of these aspirational gurus who are scared to die and are willing to go to extreme lengths to preserve their physique — at any cost.

This time it’s Brian Johnson (yes, they have the same name), the self-proclaimed Liver King. He’s touted a lifestyle in which he only eats meat, or as his wife puts it in the trailer, “just bone broth, liver and meat.” But how much of that was really true? A Netflix documentary looks closer.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 1 finale

Ok The Big Bang Theory fans, if you didn’t have enough with 12 seasons of the original show and seven seasons of Young Sheldon, there’s even more for you with the franchise’s latest spinoff, Georgie & Mandy.

The newest prequel concluded its first season on May 15, but don’t worry — it’s already been greenlit for season 2! If you missed the finale, though, be sure to catch up before the CBS show comes back in the fall.

Saturday Night Live season 50 finale

After a massive celebratory 50th season, the only right way to conclude a year full of laughs (and drama) is with a host who is so familiar with the show, she married one of its stars: Scarlett Johansson!

The Saturday Night Live season 50 finale will be hosted by Johansson with global superstar Bad Bunny as the musical guest, and it’s gearing up to be a big night — the Jurassic Park actress teased she hopes to make it even longer than the (nine hour) SNL 50th special!

Watch the Saturday Night Live season 50 finale on NBC or Peacock on May 17 at 11:30 p.m. EST.

Overcompensating

Sex Lives of College Girls may have been cancelled, but there’s a new college comedy grappling with one’s sexuality coming to the small screen: Overcompensating.

Loosely based on executive producer, writer and viral content creator Benito Skinner‘s true coming out story, the show follows a former football player who tries to find himself in college. But there are a lot of obstacles (and super starry guest appearances!) along the way.

Welcome to Wrexham season 4

It’s been four years since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney brought a downtrodden soccer club, Wrexham FC, to the spotlight in a real-life Ted Lasso situation.

Now, the club has been promoted, and the pressure is on as they face off against Tom Brady‘s team, Birmingham City.
