There is a “third party” in Gwen Stefani’s marriage to Blake Shelton — just not in the way fans may initially assume.
On the Wednesday, April 23 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the host asked the No Doubt frontwoman about the best relationship advice she’d ever received. For Stefani, that advice would be, “Make sure you have a third party,” she revealed, pointing and looking upwards as a reference to God. The audience reacted with a collective “awww.”

Stefani and Shelton — who began dating in 2015 following their respective divorces to Gavin Rossdale and Miranda Lambert — also enjoy a cozy night in, the “Cool” singer told Barrymore on Wednesday.
“We have two couches, and Blake’s on that couch. And we’re like, ‘Hiiii,’” she laughed, revealing they each sit on their own respective sofas due to Shelton’s size. (The country star is 6’5″.)
“I would sit next to him, but he’s gigantic,” she quipped. “We don’t fit anywhere.”
The duo, who met as coaches on The Voice, tied the knot in 2021. Shelton is stepfather to Stefani’s three sons — Kingston, 18, Zuma, 16, and Apollo, 11— whom she shares with ex Rossdale.
