Lil Durk‘s legal pickle has not waivered his faith as the rapper has helped convert over a dozen inmates to Islam.
Lil Durk Guides Inmates to Islam
On April 18, the 32-year-old Chicago rapper’s father, Dontay Banks, appeared on The Breakfast Club where he spoke on Durk’s murder-for-hire case, and talked about how Durkio is holding up while preparing for trial later this year. According to Banks, Durk is continuing to keep his faith in religion and is also helping others gain theirs.
“[Being locked up] is always gonna have its effect on you. But, you know, you always bounce back and look at the greater picture,” Banks says around the 21-minute timestamp of the interview below. “He’s definitely in their building. He was telling me that when he came in, it was four Muslims on the block. He said now it’s 17 Muslims on the block. So, he’s in their converting.”
Lil Durk converted to Islam as an adult and has been vocal about being a practicing Muslim. Last September, he changed his name to Mustafa Abdel Malek.

Lil Durk Prepares for Murder Trial
Lil Durk is currently being held in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting trial after being charged with murder-for-hire last October. Authorities say he hired five men to murder Quando Rondo in August of 2022. The murder attempt, which took place at a Beverly Hills, Calif. gas station, instead took the life of Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson a.k.a. Lul Pab.
Durk pleaded not guilty but has been denied bond in the case. His attorney recently filed a motion to get the case dismissed, with claims that prosecutors misled a grand jury into indicting Durk with false information.
Durk’s trial is scheduled to start on Oct. 14.
