Sia Files for Divorce from Daniel Bernad After 2 Years of Marriage

Sia is filing for divorce from her husband Daniel Bernad after two years of marriage.

According to the court documents, filed on Wednesday, March 19 and obtained by PEOPLE, the Australian singer/songwriter separated from her husband on Tuesday, March 18 and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.

The filing also revealed that the “Breathe Me” artist, 49, also quietly welcomed her third baby, her first with Bernad, 11 months ago.

Per the court documents, Sia’s baby is named Somersault Wonder Bernad and was born on March 27, 2024.

The Grammy-nominated singer is requesting legal and physical custody of their 11-month-old but is open to visitation rights to Bernad. However, she is asking the court not to grant her ex spousal support.

Reps for Sia did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

In May 2023, months after they were legally married, the pop star tied the knot with Bernad in an intimate, candlelit ceremony at Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s Villa Olivetta in Portofino, Italy. Only six guests were present for the nuptials.

Prior to Bernad, the “Elastic Heart” artist was married to Erik Anders Lang, whom she wed at her Palm Springs, California home in August 2014, two months after Lang revealed their engagement on Instagram in June 2014. In December 2016, the pair called it quits.

Before marrying Bernad, Sia became a mom to two teenage boys in 2019. At the time, both were 18 years old and about to age out of the foster care system.

In a 2020 interview with InStyle, she opened up about becoming a mother, revealing that she “wanted to be a mom my whole entire life.”

The “Cheap Thrills” hitmaker also discussed facing infertility, saying she had even undergone in-vitro fertilization treatments with Lang.

“Eventually, we did get embryos, but then we also got a divorce, so I wasn’t able to use them,” Sia told the publication.

Watching the 2016 HBO documentary Foster, which explores the foster care system, prompted Sia to become a parent.

She found the boy she had previously seen in the doc two years later, and decided to adopt him.

While she was initially just going to adopt him, that day, he had asked if his “cousin Che” from his group home could come to live with them, too.

“I had two spare bedrooms, so I said, ‘Sure!'” she said. “And even though I’d never met Che before, he also moved in with me that evening.”
