Death Cab for Cutie have signed with ANTI- Records following the fulfillment of their two decade run at major-label Atlantic, for which the Ben Gibbard-led band released six albums (two of which sold more than 1 million copies). Death Cab has also confirmed a summer tour with support from Jay Som, Japanese Breakfast and Nation of Language.
“We are thrilled to be joining the roster at ANTI- which includes some of our favorite artists, old friends and in many cases, both,” said Gibbard of the label, which is home to everyone from Tom Waits and Mavis Staples to MJ Lenderman and Fleet Foxes. “We also can’t wait to begin this new chapter with the wonderful staff at ANTI- and share with you what we’ve been working on.”
The group’s 11th studio album is expected at some point this year. It will be the follow-up to 2022’s Asphalt Meadows, which spawned two No. 1 hits on Billboard‘s Adult Alternative Airplay chart in “Here to Forever” and “Pepper.”
Meanwhile, Death Cab’s upcoming outing begins July 10 in Minneapolis and runs through Aug. 7 in Paso Robles, Ca. Beforehand, the group will perform at Denver’s Outside Days festival on May 29. Tickets go on sale Jan. 30.
“One of my favorite parts of being in this band is getting to be out on the road with artists that inspire us. Japanese Breakfast, Jay Som and Nation of Language have made some of our favorite albums in recent years and we’re stoked they’ll be joining us this summer,” Gibbard enthuses.
