Gracie Abrams, The National’s Aaron Dessner and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon have teamed for the single “Sold Out,” which they released today (Dec. 22) exclusively on Bandcamp. The song was written following a 2024 school shooting but the artists opted to put it out now following several recent, tragic gun-related incidents.
“We made this song last year in the wake of a school shooting. We were reminded of it this week as our hearts were broken yet again,” the trio shares. “It’s a sad one to share during the holidays, but the world is hurting and we shouldn’t look away. We are proud to support Everytown, an organization dedicated to ending gun violence in America. We are releasing this song to raise awareness of their mission of reducing gun violence. Dessner has produced both of Abrams’ studio albums (2023’s Good Riddance and 2024’s The Secret of Us), and Abrams previously told SPIN he “is an expert at letting the narrative carry the story. He’s reminding me constantly of the importance of space and room in my life and in music. [Secret] is a pop album for sure, but he also really brought sensitivity to it.”
Abrams and Vernon are also no strangers, as the Bon Iver leader contributed vocals, guitar and keyboard to several tracks on The Secret of Us.
