Gorillaz’s ‘House Of Kong’ Heads To Los Angeles

After its summer debut in London, Gorillaz are rebuilding the exhibition House of Kong for Los Angeles audiences at Rolling Greens DTLA from Feb. 26-March 19. The event dovetails with the March 20 release of the Damon Albarn-led cartoon band’s new album, The Mountain.

As part of the celebration, Gorillaz will also perform standalone shows at Hollywood Palladium on Feb. 22-23, during which they’ll air The Mountain in its entirety with surprise special guests. Exhibition ticket-holders will have the first crack at concert access, with details to be announced.

To complement House of Kong, Gorillaz are reassembling for concerts at the 7,500-capacity Copper Box Arena on Aug. 29-30 and Sept. 2-3. Exhibition ticket-holders will have the first crack at tickets, with details to be announced.

Per organizers, House of Kong traces Gorillaz’s “life of misadventures, musical innovation and groundbreaking virtual ways” since their debut in 2000 with “Tomorrow Comes Today.” See the exhibition trailer below.

The Mountain finds Gorillaz flanked by IDLES’ Joe Talbot, Sparks, former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, Anoushka Shankar, Asha Bhosle, Asha Puthli, Bizarrap, The Roots’ Black Thought, Super Furry Animals’ Gruff Rhys, Jalen Ngonda, Kara Jackson, Omar Souleyman, the Clash’s Paul Simonon, Trueno and Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def). The voices of departed musicians such as Bobby Womack, De La Soul’s Dave Jolicoeur, the Fall’s Mark E. Smith, Fela Kuti drummer Tony Allen, rapper Proof and even actor Dennis Hopper are also represented on the project.

Gorillaz will support The Mountain with a U.K. and Ireland arena tour next spring, beginning March 21 in Manchester. Appearances at summer European festivals will follow.
