Peaer Announce New Album ‘Doppelgänger’: Hear “Button”

Peaer are officially back. Back in 2019 the Brooklyn indie rockers released their great album A Healthy Earth, but we didn’t hear from them again until last November when they shared the mathy heater of a single “Just Because.” Now, at last, a new Peaer album is imminent: Doppelgänger arrives in January, and judging by lead single “Button,” it’ll be worth the wait.

Though 2020 halted some of Peaer’s big touring plans to support A Healthy Earth, they didn’t stop working on music behind the scenes. Doppelgänger allowed them to flesh out a lot of the nascent songs they’d conceived since then, but there are also ideas dating all the way back to 2015. Frontman Peter Katz explains in a press release:

As with all of our albums, I try and let the title “emerge” from the songs after they are all completed and recorded. In this case, it became clear that these songs were about reflection and reckoning with your mental projection of yourself vs. who you literally are. Doppelgänger immediately resonated with me for this reason. It also helps that the word “peaer” is found within it (doppelgänger).

Katz adds that “Button” was inspired in part by his returning to an office job in 2023, and figuring out how to balance the corporate life with his creative pursuits. It’s on the more slowcore side of the Peaer spectrum, but the melodies and vivid production keep it moving forward. Listen to it and see the full Doppelgänger tracklist below.
