Blake Lively’s Family Supports Ryan Reynolds at John Candy Doc Screening: Photo

Ryan Reynolds had the support of his wife Blake Lively‘s family for a very special evening.

Reynolds, who co-produced the documentary John Candy: I Like Me, stepped out on Thursday, Oct. 2, for a special screening in Los Angeles, just under one month after the film about the late actor and comedian premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.

While Lively, 38, wasn’t in attendance, Reynolds, 48, was joined on the red carpet by her sisters Robyn and Lori Lively, plus niece Kate Johnson, who is Robyn’s daughter.

Other celebrities at the screening included the documentary’s director and co-producer Colin Hanks, as well as Martha Plimpton, Macaulay Culkin, Weird Al Yankovic, Lena Waithe and Martin Short, plus Candy’s kids Jennifer Candy-Sullivan and Christopher Candy.

John Candy: I Like Me is a heartwarming tribute to the Canadian star, who died in 1994 at age 43, and features appearances from friends and costars like Steve Martin, Catherine O’Hara, Dan Aykroyd, Tom Hanks, Martin Short and Mel Brooks.

The film offers glimpses of Candy’s upbringing in Toronto, as well as his earliest screen roles before breaking out in 1980s hits Stripes (1981), National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983), Spaceballs (1987) and more — including 1987’s Planes, Trains and Automobiles, which inspired the documentary’s title.

Of getting Candy’s Stripes costar Bill Murray on board for the film, Reynolds said during a panel at Thursday’s screening that his “kids finally were the closers,” as Murray, 75, “ghosted me forever.”

In particular, Reynolds and Lively’s 2-year-old son Olin really clinched it. “I go tell Bill to do the damn interview. And [Olin] goes, ‘Do the damn interview, Bill!’ And I say, ‘How can you say no to a child like that? I dunno what kind of monster you are,’ ” the actor recalled.

“And then [Bill] wrote back immediately, ‘I saw you on TV’ – the phone is his TV – ‘What do you need for JC?’ ” Reynolds continued, referring to a “desperate video” he’d sent Murray, pleading with him to take part. “And I’m telling you, homie showed up.”

Blake’s siblings regularly show support for her and Reynolds, like at the world premiere of his movie Deadpool & Wolverine in July 2024, when Robyn, 53, was by her sister’s side.

They were also joined by Robyn’s three children, whom she shares with fellow actor husband Bart Johnson: Kate, Wyatt and Baylen.

Robyn even teamed up on a project with Reynolds recently: a video spoofing her TV show Doogie Howser, M.D., made as a joking response to the hit series’ star Neil Patrick Harris now voicing Reynolds’ character Deadpool in a new video game.

After he appeared to awkwardly lean in for a kiss during the video, Reynolds backed up and said, “No, I don’t think we should do that, because — ”

“Because you are so dumb,” Robyn quipped, at the same time her screen partner said, “Because you’re my sister-in-law.”
