Owen Cooper has nothing but love and gratitude for his parents, Noreen Cooper and Andy Cooper.

The couple shares three boys — Connor Cooper, Ollie Cooper and Owen Cooper — who they raised in Northern England, per Liverpool Echo. Though his family has been supportive of his creative ambitions, Owen said he’s not sure where the talent comes from.

“Both of my brothers are electricians and my mum’s a carer,” he joked to Liverpool Echo in March 2025. “My dad works in IT. So, I’ve no clue where it comes from.”

Their support was on full display when Owen brought his parents to the 2025 Emmys, where he made history as the youngest winner to ever take home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in Netflix’s hit miniseries Adolescence.

Owen told Liverpool Echo that his mother works as a carer, which is defined by NHS England as anyone who looks after a person with an illness or disability. In addition to providing that support, Noreen also raised three boys in Warrington, England, a small industrial town near Liverpool and Manchester.

The actor told i-D in March 2025 that because his house is across the street from a park, he often associates the smell of cut grass with home. “That or petrol,” he said. “I love the smell of petrol, even though I know it’s not good for me!”

Andy works in IT

The actor’s father has worked in the information technology industry since 2004, per his LinkedIn. After spending nearly two decades at a green energy company in Scotland, Andy took on the role of a support analyst for an oil and gas business in Warrington in 2022.

Prior to his IT career, the father of three attended Crown Woods School and studied leisure and tourism.

Andy and Noreen welcomed two sons, Connor and Ollie, before their youngest child was born in 2009. Though Owen initially had dreams of being a soccer player, he told i-D that he decided to pursue acting after watching Tom Holland in the 2012 film The Impossible.

“It was a day when I woke up and it just clicked in me that I wanted to start doing it,” Owen said in a July 2025 interview with Tudum. “I don’t know where it came from, but I asked my mom and dad if I could start going to drama [classes], and I think they were a bit shocked by it because I’ve always wanted to become a footballer … it was a bit out of the blue, really.”

Unlike their younger brother, Connor and Ollie’s career paths are more traditional. Both of them work as electricians, per Liverpool Echo.

Owen told Liverpool Echo that his parents were very involved in the filming of Adolescence and at least one of them was always with him on set — even when Noreen was recovering from surgery.

“They would swap over sometimes because at the time my mum had an operation so she had to stay home for most of episode three,” the Emmy-winning actor said.

He continued, “So my dad would come. And he’d have cans (headphones) on in the back watching it and I’d always go up to him afterwards. So, yeah, my dad would be there most of the time.”

The Adolescence star attended his first-ever Emmys with Noreen and Andy by his side. After his history-making win, he gave his mom and dad a well-deserved shout-out in his acceptance speech.

“This is so surreal, though, honestly, when I started these drama classes, I didn’t expect to be in the United States, never mind here,” Owen said. “But I think tonight proves that if you listen and you focus and you step on the comfort zone, you can achieve. You can achieve anything in life.”

He continued, “I was nothing about three years ago. I think if you’re listening, you’re focusing, you just step out of your comfort zone a little bit. Who cares if it’s a bit embarrassing? You know, a big thanks to my parents, to my mum, my dad, my family, the ones who love me, the ones who I love.”

After his big win, the young star posed with his award and his proud parents on the red carpet.
