As more and more people turn to AI chatbots to get answers to their queries (whether they specifically set out to or not), it’s worth taking note of where those AI answers are coming from, and which platforms are the most sourced by AI responses.
And according to this study, based on research conducted by SEMRush, Reddit is the top source for AI answers, by a big margin, beating out Wikipedia and YouTube by significant margins.
Could that be right? Could Reddit have ended up being one of the most valuable repository of insights on the web?
The advantage that Reddit has here is that it’s populated by crowd-sourced info, meaning actual humans have written these responses, while its up and downvote ranking system makes it easy to uncover the most valuable replies to a given topic.
In order to come to its conclusions, SEMRush analysed AI responses within four chatbot tools (Google Search Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity), based on 5k keywords, and 150k LLM citations.
So it’s a pretty big data pool, giving us an interesting snapshot of AI sourcing.
Maybe time to start looking into your Reddit presence.
