Four London Crews shaking up Body Movements UK this weekend – EARMILK

Body Movements has evolved from a DIY Hackney Wick takeover to become one of the UK’s most vital queer electronic music festivals, now taking over Southwark Park for its second outdoor edition this Sunday.

Founded by Saoirse Ryan, Clayton Wright, and Simon Denby, Body Movements is expected to bring together 10,000 attendees for a one-day celebration of queer and trans joy, unity, and dancefloor hedonism.

The festival brings every corner of the queer underground together in one park. On the decks, you can expect world-class sound and a lineup stacked with global icons and underground heroes, from headliners like b, HAAi, I.JORDAN, and ROMY to legendary crews and fresh debuts.

As Clayton Wright, co-founder of Body Movements, states: “Now more than ever, we need spaces to be ourselves and celebrate our culture. This Sunday, we invite our allies to rally with us, support us, and dance with us.”

Here’s a snapshot of four key crews bringing the energy to this year’s festival:

2CPERREA

2CPERREA is a London-based Latinx collective known for throwing queer club nights focused on perreo, dembow, and guaracha. They are celebrated for their collaborations that bring a fiery energy and non-stop “bellaqueo” to the dancefloor.

The group has been consistently featured at Body Movements, representing the foundational voices of London’s queer Latinx electronic scene.

NEUROTICA

Founded by Karlie Marx, NEUROTICA is a trans-majority, multi-genre club night based in East London known for its high-energy atmosphere. The collective is a resident at the iconic Dalston Superstore, with recent events at M.O.T. London, and champions techno, breaks, trance, and electro music.

Technomate

Technomate (tm8) is a queer London collective that operates as a record label, party series, and educational platform. Their mission is to create a supportive space for FLINTA+ (female, lesbian, intersex, non-binary, trans, and asexual) artists, with an emphasis on showcasing trance and techno. with their own party series, podcast, and edits.

They’ve been consistently featured at Body Movements events since at least 2022, appearing across multiple winter and summer editions.

playbody

A collective of queer creatives and European migrants based in Hackney Wick, playbody uses architecture and design to create intimate and radical spaces. They are known for their bi-monthly events that serve as collective experiments in sound, light, and movement, building community through a “spatial imaginary.”

Check out this mix from HEZEN, who will be taking the stage at Body Movements, for some sounds you can expect to hear on the dance floor.

These four crews exemplify Body Movement Festival’s unique ability to unite “all of the city’s collectives together” in one space, creating what co-founder Clayton describes as “a school open day, where the crowd can dip in and out of different pockets of music subcultures.”

Tickets are still available.
