- Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters premiered on June 20
- The film follows a K-pop girl group called HUNTR/X who are secretly demon hunters
- Fans are anxiously waiting for the streaming platform to greenlight a sequel
KPop Demon Hunters isn’t just a Netflix hit — it’s a musical juggernaut.
The animated fantasy film, which debuted on June 20, follows Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong) and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) as a chart-topping K-pop girl group called HUNTR/X. The trio secretly use their magical singing powers to protect humans from demonic threats, including a rival boy band of demons, the Saja Boys.
KPop Demon Hunters has amassed an impressive 56.1 million views since its premiere, per What’s On Netflix, and has been in Netflix’s top 10 in a whopping 93 countries. Meanwhile, the film’s album debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and then climbed to No. 3, making it the highest‑charting animated soundtrack of 2025 and the best since Disney’s Encanto (2021).
Viewers, along with the cast and the crew, are hoping Netflix will greenlight a sequel.
“Because we had to pack so much into 85 minutes — it’s a pretty big idea and a lot of pieces — there are so many unanswered questions, in a good way, and so many avenues that could be their own story,” co-director Chris Appelhans told Shine On Media in June 2025. “So many possibilities.”
Here’s everything we know so far about a potential KPop Demon Hunters 2.

In the final minutes of KPop Demon Hunters, Rumi’s true nature is revealed during a live performance when imposter demons masquerading as Mira and Zoey expose her glowing demon marks to the world. Devastated, Rumi flees and confronts her adoptive mother, Celine (Yunjin Kim), even asking her to end her life. Instead, Celine attempts to offer her support, but Rumi, feeling rejected, disappears in a cloud of red smoke.
As the demon king Gwi‑Ma (Lee Byung-hun) takes control — hypnotizing Mira, Zoey and the audience — the Saja Boys perform at Namsan Tower in an attempt to shatter the Honmoon barrier, which protects humans from demons. Rumi interrupts with a powerful new song that breaks the trance. Mira and Zoey join her, reigniting the barrier with combined music and unity.
During the showdown, Gwi‑Ma unleashes a devastating attack on Rumi. In a touching act of redemption, Jinu (Ahn Hyo-seop), the demon‑turned‑rival boyband leader, sacrifices himself, shielding her and transferring his soul into Rumi. This act empowers HUNTR/X to defeat Gwi‑Ma, restore the Honmoon and seal away the demonic threat.
The story concludes on a hopeful yet open-ended note: HUNTR/X reconciles publicly, Rumi embraces her half-demon identity, and although the immediate danger is gone, mysteries like Jinu’s fate remain, leaving clear room for a sequel.

Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation have not announced a KPop Demon Hunters sequel. However, co-director Maggie Kang told Variety that she and Appelhans have more stories to tell.
“We’ve set up so much for potential backstory. There are a lot of questions left unanswered and areas that are not explored, and we had to do that because there’s only so much movie you could tell in 85 minutes,” she explained.
“This was Rumi’s story, and we have backstories for Zoey and Mira — ones that we actually put in the movie, but it just kind of rejected it. It just wasn’t the movie for those stories,” Kang continued.

Cho, Hong and Yoo are all eager to reprise their roles as the voices of HUNTR/X.
“I’ve already told Maggie [Kang] and Chris [Appelhans] that there has to be a follow-up,” Yoo told Mama’s Geeky in June 2025. “I would totally do it again. I’ll be honestly a little bummed if we can’t do a sequel.”
Cho chimed in, adding that she “would be heartbroken if there isn’t a sequel.”
