David Bowie’s final albums have been compiled with rarities and live recordings from the era for a new box set, I Can’t Give Everything Away (2002-2016). Released in 18xLP and 13xCD sets, as well as digitally, the collection includes remastered versions of Heathen, Reality, The Next Day, and The Next Day Extra EP, as well as the original versions of Blackstar and the No Plan EP. Completing the set are a live album recorded at Montreux Jazz Festival in 2002, another recorded on the 2003 Reality Tour, and a collection titled Re:call 6, featuring 41 rarities, some available in physical formats for the first time. Ahead of the box set’s September 12 release, via Parlophone, listen to the AOL Session version of Reality song “New Killer Star” below.
Tony Visconti gave input on the remasters and contributes to the hardback book of unseen notes, drawings, and handwritten lyrics that accompanies the physical box sets. I Can’t Give Everything Away is the sixth in a career-spanning series of Bowie box sets that began, in 2015, with Five Years.
Next year, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London will host David Bowie’s archive in its East Storehouse’s David Bowie Centre. That opens Saturday, September 13. Guest curators of the free exhibition include Nile Rodgers and the Last Dinner Party; watch a video of the latter group discussing the archive.
