Sabrina Carpenter has been known to throw in a Madonna or ABBA cover amid the setlist for her Short n’ Sweet Show tour, and she dipped back into the ’80s again with flair last night (July 6) by welcoming Duran Duran during the second of two massive shows at London’s Hyde Park as part of the British Summer Time series.
“I also thought it might be fun if I brought out some friends of mine from the U.K.,” Carpenter said beforehand. “I’m going to need you guys to put that howling to good use.” Duran Duran frontman Simon LeBon and bassist John Taylor did the lion’s share of the work during the performance of their long-running 1982 song, but Carpenter was an enthusiastic participant on backing vocals. The artists joined for another apropos howl at the track’s conclusion.

Following Hyde Park, Carpenter will be off the road until co-headlining Lollapalooza in Chicago in early August. Her only other shows before the Oct. 23 resumption of the Short n’ Sweet Show are Oct. 4 and 11 at the Austin City Limits festival in Austin, Texas.
The artist is still near the top of multiple worldwide charts with songs from last year’s Short n’ Sweet, but she already has a monster new hit in the form of “Manchild,” the first single from her Aug. 29 album Man’s Best Friend.
Duran Duran, which had played the night before two hours away in Chelmsford, next hits Spain’s Starlite festival on July 9.
